Werner Jürgens

Calm, Collected, and Deeply Experienced

Most people know him as “Werni.” Close friends also call him “the Appenzeller”—not because he’s from that region, but because he has mastered the art of silence. Yet, Werni has plenty of stories to tell: he has been flying solo since 1992 and taking passengers on tandem flights since 1999. Despite his decades in the air, he still finds it magical to let the wind carry him, soar above the peaks, and discover the world from a completely new perspective.

From Central Switzerland to Colombia

Werni loves flying right on his doorstep in Central Switzerland. However, his sense of adventure has often drawn him to faraway places: the Dolomites, vibrant Colombia, Southern France, and the Pyrenees—flying regions where his encounters with wild vultures left a lasting impression.

With more than 30 years in the air, Werni knows just how much respect and judgment matter when you fly. Strong winds and powerful thermals constantly remind him how mighty the elements are—and how small and fragile we humans can be.

A Smile Worth a Thousand Words

For Werni, a tandem flight is perfect when his passenger goes home happy with an unforgettable experience. An overwhelmed “Wow!” after landing is always great to hear, but a genuinely content smile often tells him more than a thousand words. Classic Appenzeller, after all.

When Werni isn’t in the air, the certified fitness trainer stays in shape with weight training or spends time outdoors hiking—with or without his glider. He likes to wind down the evening with a delicious home-cooked meal and a gripping action movie.
